WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

* Workshop for painters, renovators, maintenance workers, plumbers, electricians, window/door/cabinet replacement specialists, landlords, weatherization crews, HVAC technicians, siding installers, realtors or anyone working on home improvement projects in structures built prior to 1978.

WHY?

* Common renovation activities like sanding, cutting, and demolition can disturb lead-based paint and create hazardous lead dust and chips which can harm the health of adults and children.
* To protect against lead risks, on March 31, 2008, EPA issued a rule which requires the use of lead-safe practices to prevent lead poisoning. Under the rule, beginning April 22, 2010, any renovation, repair and painting projects: 1) for compensation; 2) where paint is disturbed beyond minor repair and maintenance; and 3) in homes, child care facilities, or schools built before 1978, must be supervised by a Certified Renovator who is trained and must follow specific work practices. All firms, including property management firms, and landlords are covered by the rule and must also be certified. Firms can share certified renovators but they are still responsible for complying with the rule. Firms must renew annually in NC and renovators, every five years.
* Meet the demand in the community for environmentally-smart renovation work! The Lead Poisoning Prevention program will list course graduates on a Lead-Safe-Work-Practitioners referral list and make that information available to the community via fliers and websites.
